Riftwalker Revelation
Cinnamon BunRiftwalker Revelation is a two-stage disclosure that changes how Broccoli Bunch’s entire experience is read. First, Gunther recognizes that Broccoli is not native to Dirt and explains that she came from another world, Earth, specifically Canada. Later, when Broccoli asks Amaryllis whether she knows what a Riftwalker is, Amaryllis realizes that her human companion belongs to a rare class of arrivals associated with newly appearing dungeons. The revelation does not immediately give Broccoli a new mission or social status; instead, it supplies an explanation for her ignorance, preserves uncertainty about her destiny, and turns knowledge itself into a new basis for friendship and instruction.
Gunther’s Recognition
The first revelation occurs quietly at Fort Froger, while Broccoli cleans her kettle and puts her belongings away in her pack. Amaryllis has gone with Throat Ripper to the top of the tower to map the surrounding region, leaving Broccoli and Gunther together on the first floor. Their shared meal and tea have made the silence companionable rather than awkward, and Gunther approaches the subject of Broccoli’s origins without forcing her to answer. His question about where she comes from is phrased gently, allowing her to withdraw if the subject is uncomfortable.
Broccoli answers that she is from Earth, a place called Canada, and describes it as very cold. Gunther then asks which dungeon she appeared with, a question that exposes the difference between their assumptions about the world. Broccoli’s hesitation shows that the premise is unfamiliar to her, while Gunther’s follow-up makes the hidden issue explicit: she is not from Dirt and therefore not from his world.
Gunther’s deduction rests on language. He has spoken several languages in succession, and Broccoli did not react to the changes. He explains that an expert-rank Skill called Tongues can produce a similar effect, but that it is advanced and difficult to acquire. Broccoli does not possess that learned Skill; instead, she has received the gift associated in rumor with Riftwalkers, people who arrive from elsewhere and understand every language without noticing the switches.
The disclosure expands beyond Broccoli’s individual case. Gunther says that there is reportedly one Riftwalker for nearly every new dungeon, although the arrivals are not always people. Some are strange animals or other creatures, and those capable of speech often describe a difficult or impossible quest. Most, according to the rumors, eventually live mundane lives. New dungeons may appear every day, but they are so widely separated and often located in inhospitable places that Riftwalkers rarely meet one another. Gunther therefore treats Broccoli’s origin as remarkable but not automatically ominous: the world may bless such arrivals, or it may not, and even he knows little beyond hearsay.
Amaryllis Learns the Truth
The second stage takes place during the walk toward Green Hold, after Orange has gone ahead to scout and the party has recrossed the bridge. Amaryllis suddenly remarks that her class evolution is approaching and that she will need a second class in abeyance if she wants to continue progressing. She explains that, if Broccoli remains her partner in the Exploration Guild, they will have to detour to a suitable dungeon so that she can acquire that second class.
The practical discussion becomes personal because Broccoli’s ignorance is now creating distance between them. She initially tries to avoid explaining why she knows so little, calling it a long story, but Amaryllis counters that the walk is long. Broccoli then asks directly whether Amaryllis knows what a Riftwalker is. Amaryllis first answers with uncertainty, then studies Broccoli and realizes that the possibility explains much of what had previously seemed inexplicable.
Amaryllis’s response is more alarmed than Gunther’s. She says that the only person for whom Broccoli’s status is bad is herself: if professors back home at Farseeing learned that she had traveled with a Riftwalker without thoroughly questioning her, they would punish her severely. Her reaction reveals that Riftwalkers are not merely curiosities in the academic culture Amaryllis comes from. Association with one carries professional and perhaps institutional risk, especially when the companion has failed to investigate the arrival properly.
The revelation also reorganizes Amaryllis’s judgments of Broccoli. She had attributed Broccoli’s complete cluelessness about magic, ignorance of local cultures, and general incompetence to ordinary causes, including the possibility that she had been struck in the head. Once Broccoli is identified as a Riftwalker, those traits become signs of displacement. What looked like personal deficiency is partly the predictable result of arriving in an unfamiliar world without its cultural and magical knowledge.
A Precedent and a New Agreement
Amaryllis’s first reaction does not end their partnership. Instead, she recalls an earlier Riftwalker: an apparently unassuming man whom every test had suggested possessed little talent or worth. That man later became a professor at the greatest academy in Snowland and pioneered the gravitic engine used by airships. His example prevents Broccoli’s present limitations from becoming a final verdict. A Riftwalker may initially appear unimpressive and still become historically important.
Broccoli refuses to promise a comparable future. She says that she believes she has already done what this world wanted from her, while also insisting that the two of them can remain friends. Amaryllis is relieved enough to ask whether Broccoli truly means it. She then recasts Broccoli as a trove of potentially interesting, if mundane, facts. The exchange turns the revelation away from suspicion and toward reciprocity.
Their agreement is explicit in practical terms. Broccoli will tell Amaryllis about her world if Amaryllis helps her learn the magic used in Dirt. Amaryllis accepts enthusiastically and presents herself as the person capable of bringing Broccoli up to the world’s standard. The conversation ends with Broccoli asking what class evolution means, linking the emotional disclosure directly to the technical education that their continued partnership will require.
Meaning Within Broccoli’s Journey
The revelation clarifies a pattern established throughout Broccoli’s early adventures. Her use of Insight to identify an Alice in Wonderland reference, her discovery of the poisoned cake and shrinking potion, and her recognition of the Wonderland Dungeon’s Dungeon Core and Evil Root all show a mind interpreting Dirt through knowledge from another world. Her accidental unlocking of Cute through a Class-aligned Special Action, her use of Cleaning magic against a ghost, and her encounter with the Zombie of Cheshire likewise place modern game-like expectations beside unfamiliar magical realities. These details do not prove her identity by themselves, but the Riftwalker explanation makes their contrast coherent.
The event also gives a new significance to Broccoli’s habit of cleaning and observing. Cleaning begins as a low-ranked Skill, recorded at Rank F with 90 percent progress, and can function as ordinary maintenance, as when she cleans her kettle. Yet Cleaning magic can also destroy a ghost, remove contamination from a finger, and operate beside Insight as a means of classifying threats and objects. Broccoli’s displaced perspective repeatedly converts the strange into something examinable, even when her conclusions are comic, frightened, or incomplete.
Structurally, the revelation works as delayed confirmation rather than a single dramatic announcement. Gunther knows first and offers a cautious account built from rumors; Amaryllis learns later and supplies the social and academic consequences. The information is therefore distributed through relationships: a quiet tea conversation establishes the fact, while a long walk tests what the fact will do to trust. Broccoli remains uncertain about what the world expects of her, but she is no longer merely lost. Her origin becomes a shared problem, a source of possible danger, and the foundation of a deliberate exchange between two friends from different worlds.
Consequences and Narrative Significance
Riftwalker Revelation changes the meaning of Broccoli’s partnership with Amaryllis without dissolving it. Amaryllis must now account for the risks of traveling with someone whose arrival is tied to a dungeon, while Broccoli must accept that her lack of magical and cultural knowledge is visible to others and may carry consequences beyond embarrassment. At the same time, the revelation gives Amaryllis a reason to teach and gives Broccoli a reason to share rather than conceal her background.
The event leaves Broccoli’s future deliberately open. Gunther’s account offers no guarantee that the world will bless her, and Broccoli herself rejects the expectation that she will become another celebrated Riftwalker like the inventor of the gravitic engine. That refusal is important: the disclosure supplies an origin, not a prophecy. Its decisive effect is interpretive and relational. Broccoli’s failures become legible as displacement, Amaryllis’s disappointment becomes curiosity, and the road toward class evolution becomes a journey undertaken with fuller knowledge of who is walking it.
